Recently after I returned from my first trip to China in 2007,  a show on NPR called On the Media hosted a contest for the best novel in 12 words or less.  Of the few they chose to play on the air, “Living Abroad,” by Marcia Veach has stuck with me since.

“This is China! This is China? This – is China.”

It’s funny to think that back then I could relate to what Marcia wrote, because now I have no idea what’s she’s talking about.  I don’t think I’ll ever pin this place down.
